Transcription: The Capitol was rebuilt. The House of Representatives then met in this stately column chamber, which now serves as National Statuary Hall. As the country expanded, Congress grew larger too. In the 1850s, construction of the present vast wings of the Capitol has begun, providing much larger chambers for both House and Senate. It became clear that a grandeur dome was needed to give the enlarged building greater symmetry. It was begun before the wings were completed.
